Rising Tennis Stars For 2010

By Venice Dalo

The 2010 tennis season got off to a great start with the excitement of the recent Australian Open. Once again, Roger Federer showed who's boss by mercilessly dispensing with Andy Murray to capture yet another Grand Slam title.

There again, it's still very early in the season, and way too early to write anyone off yet. Look at the surprises last year threw up, a prime example being Juan Martin Del Potro winning the US Open title by beating Federer in the final.

There are a few players to keep an eye out for this year, as 2010 could well be the year that they achieve their potential.

The peak of her 2009 season was beating some big names to battle her way through to the semi finals of the US Open. With years yet to mature and grow as a player, she could well be lifting many major trophies in the years to come.

A young man with the aspirations to take Federer's crown is Marin Cilic. A top ten player at only 21, he has started this year with 15 wins and only 1 loss. Watch out for him this year to really rattle the top players. The depth of his game at this young age is staggering, and he can only get better.

He has started the year brilliantly, and currently has a 15-1 record, he'll be hoping to capitalize on this and go on to cause some major upset in the coming year.

His career has unfortunately been blighted by gambling scandals, but now that these are behind him, he is fully focusing on his tennis.

He is fast becoming Federer's nemesis, having beaten the Swiss master twice in their last three meetings. As the unfounded gambling rumours have now gone, it seems that he is now free to just concentrate on what he does best.
