3 Canadian Home Improvement Handymen

By Jason Miller

If you haven't been a big fan of home improvement television shows in the past, then you definitely think about tuning into the latest gang of handymen from the great white north. House repair television shows used to be all about putting together minor projects, completing minor repairs and picking up design tricks. These days you can discover how to remodel an empty room, see how to replace an outdoor deck or go through a professional home inspection where everything can go wrong. Here are three you should be learning from on television:

Mike Holmes: Mike is an entertaining and charismatic professional contractor who really wants to help people how to care for their homes and to fight their rights as homeowners. His television show Holmes on Holmes features hapless homeowners who found a minor issue which usually becomes a huge hassle. Mike Holmes and his crew of expert handymen and handywomen spend their time ripping down a house, explaining what's wrong with the work that was done before.

Bryan Baeumler: Bryan Baeumler first came to fame with his TV show called Disaster DIY in which he explains what went wrong with a home repair and then helps the homeowner repair the damage and complete the project. The House of Bryan is reported to be the most popular show ever aired on HGTV, so even if you don't remember his name, you most likely will recognize his face. Attractive and bald, Bryan is a home improvement expert who specializes in fixing projects that hapless homeowners have tried to complete themselves.

Scott McGillivray: Scott McGillivray is not only a renovation professional but he's also a TV show host, a professional landlord and a marketing genius. Scott is mostly recognized for his program Income Property in which he helps young new homeowners increase their income by refinishing an unused part of their home and turn it into a rental unit. Though he is only in his early 30s, the more you read about Scott McGillivray's life the more interested you will be in learning how this broke college kid started a growing real estate business in just a few short years.

All 3 of the guys are entertaining to see, experts and mostly interested in helping the average homeowner get the most value out of home renovations. To watch all of these programs you'll need to check your local channel listings. Skeptics who claim you can't learn anything from watching TV have clearly never watched anything by these home improvement contractors.
