Beer Pong Celebrities: Famous Personalities Sink Balls And Chug Down

By Derek Reed

Beer pong celebrities fall into two categories: real and fictional. The ones that are classified as 'real' can actually be proven to have played the game. The 'fictional' category are those who feature most in dream team scenarios, comedy sketches and satirical pieces.

About the Game: The object of the game is to clear all your opponents glasses off the table. To do this, you must sink a ping pong ball in each mug, by throwing or batting it across an eight-foot long table. House rules vary from pub to frat house to watering hole, but generally, if a ball is sunk, the beer in the cup (or kept separately for hygiene purposes) must be downed and the cup removed from the table. The game is also called beirut.

'Real' beer pong celebrities: Probably the coolest source of celebs battling for Beirut greatness is Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. His opponents are always female and no, he does not always win. Rules are the first to get two balls sunk wins, and they play without paddles.

Tennis stars Serena Williams and (sometimes model) Anna Kournikova, Jessica Alba (Machete, Dark Angel), Betty White (Boston Legal, Hot In Cleveland), Lucy Liu (Charlie's Angels, Ally McBeal), Jennifer Garner (Alias, Valentines Day), Helen Mirren (Red, The Queen), Sigourney Weaver (Ghost Busters, Avatar), Kate Hudson (Nine, You, Me And Dupree) and Charlize Theron (Mighty Joe Young, Monster) are just some lovely ladies that have challenged Mr Fallon on Late Night.

Digital College Network and LA Comedy Shorts Festival held a celeb beirut party in downtown Los Angeles' Lucky Strike Lanes last year April. Regular players and celebs were randomly matched into teams. Players could play alcoholic or non-alcoholic games according to preference. Aisha Tyler (CSI, 24) was the 'pongmistress' and famous players included Gary Anthony Williams (Boondocks, Boston Legal) and Brad Sherwood (Who's Line Is It Anyway) among others.

There are a number of web sites that host galleries of beer pong celebrities. Many well known faces can be seen knocking back penalty brews and sinking ping pong balls. Howard Stern, famous shock-jock, has occasional games on his Internet-tv show. True to form, Stern's tournaments feature augmented 'co-eds' in clinging or barely there outfits.

'Fictional' beer pong celebrities: Beirut is a great scenario for lampooning those naughty tabloid-making celeb boozers, and favorite satire targets include Tara Reid (Scrubs, American Pie), David Hasselhoff (America's Git Talent, Night Rider), Charlie Sheen (Two And A Half Men, Hot Shots), Kiefer Sutherland (24, The Three Musketeers), Lindsay Lohan (Mean Girls, Herbie Fully Loaded), Russell Crowe (Gladiator, Beautiful Mind), Danny DeVito (It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia, Twins), George W Bush and even Homer Simpson. These famous party people are featured inn tons of fantasy leagues, campus rags, blogs and comedy sketch shows.

Quite apart from the beer pong celebrities above, there are people who are actually remarkably good at the game itself. The largest, longest-running beirut tournament is the World Series of Beer Pong (WSOBP), which last year had a record fifty-grand cash prize and included contestants from forty five US States and five of Canada's Provinces. WSOBP players either buy their way into the tournament or earn a place by competing in official satellite games.
