There have been a huge number of very talented dancers over the years. In this article, we will look at some of those dancers that have had the biggest impact on their particular fields. From ground-breaking ballet dancers to tap dancers and ballroom dancers, there have been so many dance pioneers that it will be impossible to list it all. Here we choose just a few.
Our first dancer was a Russian born in the city of St Petersburg in 1881. We are of course talking about Anna Pavlova, probably one of the most recognisable names not just in ballet, but also in the world of desserts! Anna inspired many other ballerinas with her strength on such a small frame and she achieved fame all over the world after founding her own ballet company.
There have been many other ballet dancers who have had huge influence and success, namely Rudolf Nureyev, but next we will look at people in more contemporary dancing scenes. Most notably, one could argue, is Michael Jackson, whose most famous move "The moonwalk" was one of the most iconic dance moves ever and is still attempted (and failed) by people in bars and clubs the world over.
Moving into more contemporary types of dancing, these are no more evident than in the stars past and present of stage and screen. Patrick Swayze (as well as other cast members) was a huge hit with his dancing in the cult classic Dirty Dancing. Fred Astaire's many roles alongside Ginger Rogers were other examples of great dancing and timeless performances. There are so many other acts that it would be impossible to mention them all.
Pioneers of new (or adapted versions of old) dances have also found fame in recent years, no more so than Michael Flatley, who is renowned for his creation of Riverdance and Lord of the Dance which have become worldwide phenomena. It is impossible to tell who the future stars will be and from which medium they will come. Possibilities are from popular music and popular talent show dance contestants.
