Crafting Your Own Salon Aprons

By Mamie Conrad

Among the equipment required by stylists are salon aprons. These essential piece of equipment is very useful in protecting the worker from spills and stains of chemicals and solutions used in styling. The standard design of the tools used in parlors should have the functional pockets that store other tools needed for hair styling.

The aprons used in salons are not much different from those used by a butcher, a washer, or a chef. However, it should be suitable to the intended purpose. To make it so, there are modifications that the designer can do to the regular piece.

When designing the appropriate tool, first decide whether you like to make your own from sewing to printing or buy a completed piece and add the modifications. If you choose to craft your own, you will need fabric and a pattern to start on. You will need scissors, thread, and other trimmings that you will need for your design.

You can find an easy design on the local textile shop. If you plan to purchase a ready to utilize apron, you can purchase one from a store that sells beauty products. If you decide to create your own using a pattern, choose the appropriate fabric to use.

The preferred textile should be durable to withstand a machine wash. Choose an appropriate color that reflects the color that is predominant in your business. You can make the colors of your logo as basis in choosing the color to use. Make it a point to choose colors that do not easily show signs of stain and spills. White is not advisable to use unless you are using single use tool.

Start creating the tool by cutting the pieces based on the pattern. To make accurate cuts, iron the pattern as well as the fabric to be used. Make sure all pieces can fit into the available length of the textile before cutting. Allowances have to be made for additional pockets and embellishments not included in the original pattern.

Cut out the textile based on the measurements, fold the seams, and iron out again. This makes sewing easy. Assemble the pattern first before making the first stitch to make sure that all the pieces are in place. Sew the seams and connections manually or using a sewing machine. Be sure to use all appropriate tools to avoid injury.

Start with the pockets and straps. After which, you can start with the seams of the fabric. The embellishments that you use should not hinder with the work of the stylists. Hinges and frayed seams are not advisable to use because it can get caught up in other salon equipment. Instead, you can choose iron on designs or your logo for the embellishment.

Using paint to apply the logo requires a level of skill in applying the paint. You can outsource this part of the crafting process to avoid destroying the equipment. Provide the professional painter with a high resolution color design of the logo. Choose the paint colors to be employed in the project to make sure that the finished job is to your liking. Let the paint set before letting the hair stylists use the salon aprons in their work.
