How To Make Crystal And Pearl Jewelry

By Concetta Kelley

It is easy to make a pair of beautiful drop earrings to add to your crystal and pearl jewelry collection. Follow the easy steps and you will have created something unique.

There are several materials that you'll need to complete this task. They can all be found at a local craft supply store, or you may choose to recycle some old items that you no longer use. For this particular pair you will need two heads pins, two ear hooks, two jump rings (small), four crystals (small), two pearls (medium), wire cutters, and needle nosed pliers.

Place the beads on the head pins. For each one, first place a crystal, then a bead, and then another crystal.

Trim the head pin with the cutters so there is about half an inch of wire protruding from the string of beads. Be sure to hold it away from your face and cup the cutters so the wire doesn't fly and cause potential damage. It is a good idea to wear glasses when cutting wire.

Now make a loop from the wire left at the end of the head pin. Bend it slightly using the pliers right next to the bead. Grasp the end and twist it into a loop. It is not necessary for it to be perfect as no one will notice something that small plus practice makes perfect!

You are now ready to attach head pins and ear hooks. Open a jump ring by grasping it next to the opening with the pliers on one side and your fingers on the other side. If you have another pair of pliers to use, it will make this step easier. Twist the ring open slightly and attach the head pin loop to the ear hook loop. Close it by twisting the ends back together and pinch it closed if necessary to prevent the pieces from slipping apart.

Congratulations you just made your own set of earrings. With little effort or expense, and different kinds of beads you can easily have a different pair for any occasion.
