Street Music As A Popular Music Genre

Many people have become fans of street music. Music is no stranger to anybody, but not everyone knows what exactly music is. The dictionary defines music as 'the art of arranging tones in an organized sequence so as to produce a unified and continuous composition'. However, in the larger picture, the meaning of music differs with culture, people, place or time. Music is sublime and too diverse, leaving every individual with a different set of choice. For some, music may be a source of pleasure, while for others, it could be the way to let out their internal distress. Even a particular person with the least inclination towards melody can recognize a piece of music instantly. Music is so various and it can be classified to various kinds.

Music is food for the soul - a panacea for the mind. Music can help in strengthening memory. Kids can rattle off the entire alphabet range in song but are not able to remember the orders sans the tune. This happens because music performs are controlled in a different section of the brain than speech. Music continues to touch hearts of many in various parts of the world, irrespective of color and race.

One kind of music genre is the country music. Country music originated in southern USA during the 1920s and since has become one of the most popular genres all around the globe. Instruments that feature usually in this category of music are guitar, piano, mandolin, electronic keyboards, double bass, drums and fiddle. John Denver, Taylor Swift and American Idol winner Carrie Underwood are the most well-known stars of country music. Instrumental music is a genre where vocals are not used and only one or some instruments feature throughout the composition. At times these compositions also include vocal inputs that are non-articulate in nature. Some of the leading names in this form of music are Roger Williams, Morris Stoloff, Nelson Riddle, Perez Prado and Les Baxter.

Techno tunes developed in Detroit, Michigan during the latter half of 1980s and is a sub-genre of digital dance music. The instruments used in this form of music include synthesizers, samplers, sequencers, drum machines, and keyboards. Well known artists of this genre are John Acquaviva, James Pennington, Dave Clarke, Carl Cox and Richie Hawtin. Trance is a type of electronic dance music and was created during the 1990s. Its most recognizable characteristic is its tempo, which varies between 125 and 150 beats per minute. The most famous names in this genre nowadays are DJs Paul Oakenfold, Tiesto, Sasha, Paul van Dyk, John Digweed and Armin van Buuren.

Street music is a modern music genre and many individuals have been listening to it. Hip hop is a kind of street music. Hip Hop music is also referred to as Rap and has been developed in USA. In this form of music, the performer keeps on chanting a rhyming speech in a definite rhythm and is coupled with musical instruments like turntables, guitars, synthesizers and drums. The leading artists in this genre have also entered into their own fashion line.
