Adding Designer Aprons To Your Wardrobe For Embellished Entertaining

By Kerri Turner

Designer aprons are not a totally new thing on the market. For generations, women have worn embellished versions to dress up a bit after a long day working in the kitchen. Some viewed them as functional articles of clothing, while others saw the possibilities that came from wearing eye catching stylish ones. Whether your eye is drawn to period replicas of decades ago, or you prefer to see what the latest have to offer, adding a few to your closet can be fun.

Almost every young woman has seen classic movies where women are in the kitchen cooking. With hardly an exception, the cooks wore aprons. What was spectacular about them was how many different colors, patterns and fabrics were available. From homespun plaids and flower filled cottons to plain white, there was something feminine about these useful items.

An apron was a homemaker's uniform. It managed to cover and protect dresses while looking good. Some were for daytime, but others were definitely for hostess duties. The latter were often embellished with rows of sassy ruffles. These dress-up versions were often sewn out of pricey fabrics as well. The later in the day the apron was worn, the more expensive the fabric.

By evening, the dinner hostess was expected to dress in evening clothes. Pretty chiffon, lace and taffeta coverings did not detract from her festive wear. When her guests arrived for cocktails or dinner before heading out to the club or theater, she was perfectly attired. Many women are rediscovering the pleasure of these customs and planning inviting evenings to showcase vintage enjoyments.

Many women are finding the pleasures of choosing to stay at home with their families. As they work to create old-fashioned homes, they are finding retro designs in their aprons to match their retro views on life. Something old is becoming new in these homes.

Some retro styles feature touches such as embroidery, extra ruffles, comfortable ties, and soft fabrics. Many are made in the USA, while others boast of fabrics imported from France. Some are designed for working in the baby nursery, while others are stain resistant materials perfect for working on outdoor picnics. Themed versions for holidays such as New Year's Eve, Halloween, Christmas, Thanksgiving or Valentine's Day are very popular. Cuts for the larger male figure are readily available, too. Styles range from silly, cute, and practical to beautiful, elegant and for show.

Some of the best news is that these fresh new items can be bought online. Internet companies are featuring many different choices, so searching out your favorites is easy. You might consider comparison shopping and then arranging home delivery. Many of the newest designs are turning up as great baby and bridal shower presents. Others arrive as birthday gifts for the best home chefs. Holiday giving is another nice way to give these to just the right person.

Consider adding some designer aprons to your own wardrobe for fun and fashion. The practical ones will keep you tidy. The lovely ones will enhance your kitchen goddess beauty and cover a day's worth of hard work. The multitask person inside you will appreciate your thoughtfulness.
