An Overview Of The Islamic Turban

A turban is very common in a number of religions in the world. Among the many religious groups, Islam and Sikhism are the main proponents of this tradition. It is usually a long and narrow piece of cloth used by men to cover their heads. The Islamic turban has gained a lot of popularity among the Muslims and it has been adopted as an important accessory. It is not just any ordinary clothing but has some symbolic relevance. It portrays religious beliefs, customs and traditions of the wearer. It is also a way of celebrating the culture in the Muslim society.

It is worn by making several wraps around the head until the crown is not visible. This process is not easy and just like most skills it requires practice to perfect it. Those people whose skill is unrefined have a tendency of making tight wraps. The wraps are uncomfortable and in most cases give the wearer a severe headache. Through practice though, proper skill are acquired.

These items are available in several colors. Most people have a preference for green, navy blue, white and black. They cost of each item is determined by the material used. Most designers prefer fine materials to make high quality items. Cotton, synthetics and silk are commonly used in this process. Unique styles are adopted for specific events.

This headgear bears great significance among the Muslims. For a long time, it has been the main emblem of the religion based on which fellow members recognize each other. Through this recognition they are able to congregate and reinforce their ties as a community. Women also make use of the hijab to mask their faces and heads in accordance of the Islamic statues.

Muslims consider this to be a modest way of dressing. It portrays a number of values that are highly appreciated in Islam. Some of these values are manhood, devotion and self-respect. Today, there are numerous stereotypes and misconceptions connected to these turbans. In western societies they are commonly associated with terrorism but this has not hindered devout believers from wearing them.

This turban is commonly worn by men during prayer time. It is a tradition advocated for in the Quran and is mandatory for proper worship. A few of them believe that when worn the prayers offered will be answered in about twenty five times. It has also been adopted by prominent and wealthy members of the society as a way of expressing their success.

It is plays several roles in the Muslim region. The various styles and colors represent different things. Muslim leaders are often seen wearing white ones while those believed to have family ties with Prophet Muhammad prefer black ones. Colorful ones are reserved for weddings and colorful events while plain ones with dull colors are for solemn occasions.

These communities are known to reside in harsh environments. The Islamic turban suits their lifestyle in these areas. It is known for providing cover from intense sunshine preventing any discomfort. It also helps to avoid dust in the desert areas and is also used while fetching water from wells in the deserts.
