General Information On Turban Colors

Color is a powerful aspect of our daily lives and is associated with numerous things. It is symbolic of certain events, memories, objects, people and even places. It is an effective cue of non-verbal communication that tells the world a lot about us. The color preferred for clothing, home and decor and the cars we chose to drive are effective communicators of our unique personalities. In this regard, turban colors are associated with certain things in the society.

Color plays a significant role in the meaning of the turban and determines what it is used for. Although the specific meaning of the color may vary depending on the religion, it can also denote the social cast of the individual. The colors symbolize events, wealth and prosperity. Another noteworthy feature besides color is the height of the headwrap which bears different meaning in regions.

Islam and Sikhism are the two main religions at the heart of the practice of wearing the turbans. It is usually a long and slim piece of fabric that is worn to cover the head. The wrapping of the dress is customary in numerous societies. It bears significance on the religious beliefs, customs and traditions of the wearer. It is a unique way of preserving ones culture.

Turbans are designed in a wide variety of colors. The most common ones are navy blue, white, black, orange and green. The quality of the turban is determined by the material used. To take care of the varied tastes and preferences and to make them affordable for everyone, different materials are used. They include silk, synthetics and fine muslin. Regardless of the type of fabric, they always look attractive.

The various religious leaders and scholars in Islamic countries are known to wear wraps that are white in color over a special cap. Individuals though to have directly descended from the lineage of Prophet Muhammad prefer to wear black wraps. Bright turbans are a common feature in joyful events such as marriages and are usually decorated with special materials. Dull and plain wraps commonly feature in solemn events including funerals

The practice of wearing turbans is highly regarded and is viewed as a proper and descent way of dressing. It signifies highly regarded qualities and values within the society such as devotion, dignity and manhood. The Islamic communities believe that green and white are the colors in paradise. Turbans with these colors are therefore wrapped during prayer as part of observing a religious law according the Quran. Others wrap it to influence the answering of the prayers they make.

In Sikhism, orange and blue wraps are associated with certain events. They are preferred for memorable events and during religious ceremonies. Pink ones are set aside for joyful ceremonies such as engagements, weddings, parties, and dinners among others. The most common color is white worn when performing day to day activities. This is part of the religious beliefs of the Sikhs.

Generally, any design or color is acceptable in these societies. Most people choose to coordinate their outfit with the specific color of the turban and vice versa. Although there are turban colors that are preferred for certain occasions, there are no rules specifying what pattern or color can or cannot be worn. There are several popular favorites and common norms.
