Tips For How To Wrap A Turban

By Freda Watts

Some garments from different cultures may prove baffling to those in the Western world. Such people would be advised to learn the techniques on how to wrap a turban. These techniques are outlined in the paragraphs that follow.

To begin with, you have to grow your hair out to the point that it becomes extremely long. After this has been accomplished, you should then be able to have it tied into a bun on top of the head (albeit further back from the forehead). This is essential if your head garment is to have the body it needs.

You must carefully consider the material that you are going to be using. If you are using a very fine material, be sure to starch it before you make use of it. It will need to be washed to remove excess starch, but this is essential if you want this head garment to sit correctly on you.

You have to fold your garment fabric in an alternating sequence. This process will require a lot of practice to get it right, so you should not be annoyed if at first you do not succeed. In point of fact, you should definitely get help when you are beginning this process.

Make sure that you wear a complementary head cover known as a patka. Such a cover will hold your bun in place and keep your turban in place too. This is necessary for you to have on prior to wrapping your head with the actual garment.

Put one end of the garment cloth in your mouth to hold it tightly. Then stretch the cloth across the top of the head. You must do this in order to securely fasten the garment to your head, so take care not to neglect this step.

Begin wrapping the garment round the head, taking care to cover the ear lobes. Continue wrapping while trying to do so in a triangle at the crown of the head. That will provide you with the desired structure.

To finish the process, pad out the folded fabric across the top of the head and slide this into the garment's sides. Slide the end which has been in the mouth throughout the process into the back of the garment. With that, the garment has been successfully placed on your head.

To ensure that you are doing this right, you have to practice every day. This has been stated previously, but practice will make perfect and beginners are obviously not going to do it right the first few times they try it. But not practicing will also lead to it being done incorrectly, so ensure that you are practising on a regular basis.

To summarise, learning the methods on how to wrap a turban is necessary should you wish to wear this head garment properly. If you happen not to have been raised in a culture where this garment is regularly worn, then such methods must be learnt diligently. And that is feasible provided you take stock of the tips presented in the paragraphs above.
