How To Make An Arabic Turban

By Kate McMahon

One of the most integral parts of the Arabic faith is the turban. An Arabic turban is a mandatory item for all who have been baptized. It is considered as a symbol of self respect, honor, spirituality and courage.

The methods or procedures that are normally applied when wearing the headgear are numerous, although the wrapping that goes round the head seven times is the most common of them all. It is mainly flat on its side and a bit high at the centre. Discussed here are some of the simple steps that can be followed in order to tie a turban.

First and foremost, you should have a 5 meter piece of fabric which you may purchase from a craft, textile or online stores. To remove the extra starch that it might have, you will need to wash it well. Along its length, fold the fabric into half up to four times. You can get some help in order to do this well.

The fabric should then be lined up so that its edges are a bit flush. You will then roll the fabric up carefully. Gather all your hair at the front part of your head and create a long rope by twisting it.

Position the twisted rope of hair at the top of the head. It should then be tied well using a square cloth. Hold the piece of square cloth well and tie it on the head, making sure that the tie is located at the back of the head. However, pull any remaining cloth and tie it at the front. Pakta, which is the other name for this cloth, is usually used to cover the hair before the headgear is worn.

With the help of your teeth, grasp the rolled up turban end. Roll it slowly to the back of the head and around the ear. This needs to be between 2 to 3 inches above the right ear;s side. After the first wrap, you should ensure that the left ear is not fully covered.

In the next step, you should wrap the headgear for the second time around the head. Ensure that the second wrap is overlapping with the first one. The headgear ought to be higher on the left and lower on the right side as opposed to the wrap that was before it.

Take the headgear around the head for five more times. As opposed to the previous wrap, the wrapping is supposed to be a bit higher on the left side and low on the right side. Next, trim out the extra material at the roll's end with a pair of scissors to be able to tuck it well at the left side at the back of the head.

The last step is taking out some inches out of the initial wrap. Spread the material over your head after carefully unfolding it. Ensure the head is completely covered by holding the material's sides and tucking it into the part of the headgear that goes round the head. Any material that is left out in excess should be tucked behind. You will have the best Arabic turban if you apply these simple steps.
