Turbans are known as traditional Islamic wear, worn mainly in the Far and Middle East. However, nowadays more modern people are wearing it as a fashion item. Some for cultural reasons, some for fun and some for special occasions. No matter what the reason, here are some useful tips on how to turban.

The most experienced in the art of tying this garment would be those who wear it on a daily basis. If you do a search on the Internet or ask different people how to do it, you may get slightly different answers. This is because there is not only one standard way of doing it. The pattern is mostly the same but different styles may come with sight variations.

Turbans can be bought in most Eastern wear shops. They would be in the men's section as they are traditionally worn by men only. Ask the floor staff for help with regards to color and fabric. Most people prefer to use light cottons as they are nice and cool and easy to manage.

They most often come in crisp white or black, but some stores may stock other colors as well. They are traditionally worn by Muslim men with a long Islamic dress called kurtha, also made of cool cotton. There is no reason why someone should not be able to experiment and try out a turban with a pair of jeans and a smart shirt for instance. It may look exotic but trendy at the same time.

Once you are ready to start the process, follow these easy steps on how to turban. Firstly, you should be fully dressed so that you will not have to put anything over your head once the turban is on. The starting point is the tail so place one end of the garment over the head with the end piece hanging down the back till the mid section of the back.

Place the left hand on the head to hold the rest of it in place as you wind it around the head from left to right. Continue with the circular pattern of winding. Make sure it is loose enough to allow movement of the head with ease yet it should not be so loose as to fall off. It is optional to wear a cap underneath to keep the hair securely in place.

Keep winding the turban around the head with a slight twisting motion of the material for style. Once it is completely wrapped around, tuck the loose end underneath one of the folds. You could also fasten it with a pin it make extra sure that it does not come undone. Turn the head from side to side and up and down to make sure it feels comfortable at all angles.

Many people are more and more interested in how to turban these days with it becoming a more popular form of head dress. Perhaps for a first time user, one could even ask a professional dressmaker or hairdresser to assist and once you have the hang of it you will be able to do it on your own.
