By Robin Johns

The fashion industry is a large and dynamic world. People try to experiment on various concepts in order to come up with a new trend. Religious beliefs and articles are one of these concepts that many designers have drawn inspiration from. This lead to the emergence of crucifix necklaces as a fashion trend.

A cross with a three-dimensional body of Jesus Christ on it is called a crucifix. The body of Jesus Christ is what makes this symbol distinct from a traditional cross.

This icon has been used by early Christians as a symbolism of Jesus Christ's death and resurrection. It has been widely used by Roman Catholics as a religious icon until today. Other forms of this icon are also adopted by other religions like Anglican or Orthodox Christians. These icons are believed by some to have powers against evil spirits and bad luck.

In the current world today, crucifixes are not just for religious statements anymore. Believers from other faith and even non-believers have taken to wearing them as a fashion accessory. This have lead to protests by many religious people, but the trend still went famous.

The symbol is now worn as a pendant for various forms of jewelry. The most typical form is to wear it in a chain around the neck. The chain length can vary according to the preference of the user. Some would want simple short chains. Others would also want very long chains which can even reach down the chest, hence the name pectoral crosses.

There are a lot of materials which can be used for the necklace. Precious metals like silver, gold, and platinum are popular choices for many. Other materials like wood, glass, and plastic can also be used. Many have also incorporated designs like encrusting precious stones like diamonds on the cross.

Wearing crucifix necklaces can be a religious statement for you, or just an acclamation of a fashion trend. Whatever purpose you might have, wearing it still makes you look good.
