Features Of The Designer Abaya In Couture Today

By Sheila Sheppard

These days, when one says chic, one thinks of the designer abaya. Those who once shunned this traditional gear have introduced it into their wardrobes to suit fashion demand. Always unpretentious, it is now ranked among the highest fashion trends.

Designers have begun to to show their collections at important events in London and Paris. It's new prominence on the fashion capitals' cat walk scene has encouraged women who long ago left tradition behind to return to their roots, more exquisitely than ever before.

There are as many materials featured as there are price tags. Evening garments are satin and velvet while terrycloth makes it comfy home attire. Some stores are pricing them very reasonably while couture designers are making theirs the territory only of the select rich. Because it's become so popular, designer varieties are impossibly priced.

Modernity is key in these new designs, showing inventive details. Sleeves that narrow from shoulder to elbow flare out at the wrist. Embroidery and print are of primary importance in day wear. Evening wear favors black, black and more black, with the occasional hint of subdued color.

There's an Asian influence in some designs being seen at Dubai Fashion week 2011. Models were Geisha like and carried fans. To top off the Japanese feel, wide sashes were present. The most important fabrics this year are chiffon and velvet.

The fashion is edging into the west where women are loving the garment. Moderate mall prices are these women's preference. The region with the most overwhelming sales is the Gulf.

The designer abaya has become remarkably flexible to suit all individual tastes. Every fashion goddess wants to be seen in one. What ever your style and price preferences, there's one that will make you gorgeous according to your own individuality.
