A Lavender Neck Wrap To Soothe And Calm

By Melba Hardy

Nothing calms a person like a lavender neck wrap. Usually a cloth tube with comfortable padding laced with the herb, this simple bath aid can be just the thing after a long, hard day. Use them for chilling out after a stressful activity. Pull one out when jumping into bed. This is an affordable luxury everyone should have.

After scrambling around the office for eight or nine hours, a wrap is a welcome relief. Whether standing still or running after people, one gets tired after these difficult days. Workers are required to be sharp, communicating and moving about which causes stress in the head and shoulder area. A delicately scented wrap around the shoulders can not only create calm and peacefulness, but can also encourage napping and sweet sleep.

There are wraps filled with special material that can be heated or chilled for comfort. Using the directions that came with it, place it in the microwave for 30 seconds, or leave it in the freezer the night before. Lay it around the shoulders for a calming, scented immersion into a tranquil state. Heat and chill it as many times as needed for years of use.

Some of them have filler that is activated by water. Put in on the shoulders and slip into a hot bath. Inhale deeply as the steamy aroma fills the air. Up to the nose it will rise and relax and sooth both muscles and mind. Then hang it up to dry after bathing.

Used to encourage sleep in a pillow scented with its flower buds, this amazing flower has also been steeped like tea in a cup of boiling water where it can be drunk. With its antiseptic and anti-inflammatory powers, it has many uses. It is also used as a condiment in food, in fragile sweets or an accent in mixed spices. They can be made using the raw flowered spikes, the rubbed version or the essential oil.

Think of lavender as the ultimate home scent. It is very popular as a drawer sachet and a natural scent for soaps and creams. Its clean, refreshing smell reminds one of home and quiet times. A neck wrap can be used at work to bring a little bit of home to the rush of the day. And with all the properties it carries, a little healing may go on at the same time.

Consider a home spa day. Close the doors, put away the phone, draw a long hot bath and warm some towels. Put it on and enjoy the aroma, sitting quietly in a hot soak. Then, wear it around the house while doing a manicure or a facial. Take that relaxation all the way and wear it to sleep.

If head and shoulder tension arises, or if the day is too full of noise and haste, have a lavender neck wrap moment right then and there. Lay it around the shoulders, close the eyes and envision enormous purple fields of the flower, like they have in England and France. Lavender's aroma opens the nasal passages, instills calm thinking and creates a sense of tranquil peace. One can always find a moment to quiet down, chill out and relax.
