Juicy Couture

By Freya Ahmed

Since its rather recent inception in 1999, the Juicy Couture brand has been a popular hit in both fashion and celebrity circles. Aimed at 10-26 year old females, modern, youthful and feminine designs are exuded right throughout the Juicy Couture range. A popular hit with celebrities and fashionistas alike, the bright colours (pinks, oranges, purples) and the delicate, feminine designs of the brand give a real radiance to the Juicy Couture label.

Maternity wear was the first aim of the Juicy Couture brand and the brainchild of the label's creators. Gela Nash and Pamela Skaist-Levy introduced the brand to California in 1995. At that time the brand was called "Travis Jeans". The aim of the brand was to be affordable yet maintain a level of high-fashion appeal to the general population. The founders began to create both athletic and casualwear for the normal woman, commanding such a large market the popularity of the brand grew quickly.

Jumping on the Juicy Couture bandwagon in the 1990s was popular singing sensation Madonna. The designers had sent her a track suit from their brand for her to try and since it had arrived she had barely been seen without it. The tracksuit was made of velour and quickly became a fashion staple to the rich and famous, ascending through the fashion ranks quickly to become a very popular choice.

Despite the brands imminent success, the creators did not develop an independent Juicy Couture store until the mid-2000s, until that time the designs were sold only through the boutique retailers such as Neiman Marcus. After this time a number of boutiques and flagship stores were created right around the world.

In recent times the Juicy Couture brand has introduced online shopping onto its website, this aims to appeal to a wide range of shoppers who can now purchase the brand from right around the world. Shoes, jewellery, handbags and clothes are all available for purchase and can be shipped to almost anywhere around the world.
