Kajol to make a guest appearance in Karan Johar's next, Student of the Year

By Rohini Nadia

The silver screen's favorite leading pair, Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol, has successfully drawn the masses to theaters with each of their films together, including Karan Johar's Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998) and his following directorial projects including Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham... (2001) and My Name Is Khan (2010). All of these have been bestselling feature films by the best-selling director, who is now drawing up plans for yet another big-budget film, Student of the Year.

Till date, Karan Johar has produced 12 films in all. Of these, 9 were directed by first-time directors, all launched by Dharma Productions. For Kal Ho Naa Ho (2003), a romantic drama film starring Shah Rukh Khan, Saif Ali Khan, Preity Zinta and Jaya Bachchan, Karan roped in Nikhil Advani, who later went on to direct blockbusters like Salaam-e-Ishq: A Tribute To Love (2007).

Picking up on his talent, Karan Johar's close friend and producer Ekta Kapoor, has approached Malhotra with a two-film deal. As expected, the actor is overjoyed at his luck, being offered films even before his debut has hit theater screens. Quoting Karan Johar, who has turned the spotlight on mentees, "I am proud of all three (Siddharth Malhotra, Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt), and would be proud if they get signed up for some good films outside our banner (Dharma Productions)".

In the film, Kajol will be seen shaking a leg with Siddharth Malhotra and Varun Dhawan. Quoting Karan Johar, "Kajol is in the disco song and she has danced with the boys. Kajol's presence is very important for me. She has been there in every film of mine and she has always been lucky." The actress was reported to have quickly picked up the steps in just 15 minutes, inspiring the newcomers in the film with the flair for dancing.

As for speculations of her marriage ending her career, the actress has proved the gossip untrue. She looks forward to acting working with her favorite director Karan Johar and Shah Rukh Khan yet again, though she insists on stronger scripts. She last featured in Karan Johar's My Name Is Khan, a film that received mixed reviews due to its story-line which was also deemed controversial by quite a few. However, for Karan Johar's upcoming release, Kajol is bound to be a crowd-puller, with fans knocking down cinema doors to get a peek at her on-screen after two long years.
